Detroit’s first fashion incubator to ignite city’s fashion industry; Detroit Fashion Collective

A new collaborative and innovative group eager to support Metro Detroit’s next generation of fashion designers, called Detroit Fashion Collective, will be hosting a private launch event this evening to kick off the city’s first fashion incubator. An organization dedicated to nurturing and developing innovative talent, DFC plans to absorb an entrepreneurial culture in terms of fashion and the developing industry within Detroit. The event will take place at the fashion incubator which features a state-of-the-art design studio providing both work and showroom space.

You may have heard the director’s name here before as we celebrated her efforts in our Designer Spotlight section. Adriana Pavon has teamed up with a small group of industry peers to combine the efforts of Detroit talent to make Detroit’s fashion community and it’s members as successful as possible. DFC has built-in relationships and trade affiliations with empire cities such as, New York and Los Angeles and would like to extend their resources and partnerships from across the country to Detroit. DFC’s mission is to ignite the entrepreneurial spirit of design students by providing a context for the group’s members to seamlessly transition from apprenticeship to practitioners. With that being said, the students currently being trained in Detroit and the designers currently working in Detroit need an incubator and a successful community to be a part of here in our city so they do not have to take their knowledge and/or business to New York, LA or Europe. With DFC’s mission in mind, the professionals, whether new or experienced, can and will stay in Detroit and be successful in the fashion industry. The movement is getting bigger by the minute and with the help of this talented group of individuals, including Adriana Pavon, the move can only get bigger and better with a successful community and a thriving city being the end result.

“We are excited to bring clothing manufacturing to Detroit and to collaborate with talented designers who believes in quality apparel made in the USA,” said Adriana Pavon, director of Detroit Fashion Collective. Pavon added, “DFC is an innovative way to drive creative design and entrepreneurial success in Detroit’s fashion industry. By providing resources and business support to the city’s fashion designers, it will help keep our creative talent here, while building an economic base for continued job growth.”

DFC started providing services  earlier this Fall including educational seminars, classes, guest speaker series, fashion shows, designer exchanges, competitions and opportunities to participate in high-profile red carpet events. The DFC team believes an emphasis on trade affiliations provides a context for members to easily transition from apprenticeship to practitioners.

Encompassing all aspects of the fashion industry from fashion design, hair, makeup, photography, film and wardrobe consulting, DFC will also provide a creative professional environment to foster promising fashion talent. By offering low-cost design studio space, business mentoring, educational seminars, and networking opportunities, the program provides a way for members to reach their full potential and become a successful and integral part of a new growing  fashion community.
