10 Ways to Avoid Dry Skin

Simple ways to avoid dry skin leaving skin soft and supple (not to mention looking & feeling extra gorgeous) every single day.

Dry skin is an issue everyone has at one time or another. It’s no secret that harsh habits and the wrong products can actually make a dry skin issue, worse.  But the right beauty regimen and a few key changes to your product list and daily habits can make all the difference when it comes to relieving dry skin. Follow these tips to keep both your face and body soft, hydrated, and supple, rather than cracked, dry, and chapped.

10 Ways to Avoid Dry Skin: Simple ways to avoid dry skin leaving skin soft and supple (not to mention looking & feeling extra gorgeous) every single day.

Use a Humidifier – Dry air can make moisture leave the skin. Putting a humidifier in the room can alleviate dry hair and skin.

Use a Hydrating Facial Mist – Most facial mists are made with special ingredients to fight dryness. Mists can boost hydration and aid the absorption of other skincare products. If you have other skin issues, hydrating mists are known to clear some of those up too!

Use Hydrating Makeup – A hydrating foundation is best to start. Water is the essence of hydration, so choose a water-based liquid foundation formula the next time you’re out shopping for makeup. Stick with foundations that offer a more dewy and sheer finish.

Stay Hydrated – Drink water. Its true cells lose water throughout the day due to physical activity and pollution in the environment. When you see flaky skin with a dry texture you may then see fine lines, aging, and other skin conditions to follow. To avoid these signs of dry and aging skin rehydrate your body constantly. You may even take a drip IV in Orange County which is a quick and effective way of boosting hydration.

Your skin is the biggest organ in your body. Feed it with water and hydrate normally to avoid nasty day-to-day flakiness.

Avoid Alcohol – Alcohol easily dehydrates the body as well as dehydrates the skin. The obvious answer to avoid this problem is to completely avoid alcohol altogether. If you do choose to drink alcohol, be sure to hydrate with water before drinking and in-between alcoholic drinks. You can also hydrate your skin with a rejuvenating mask & treat yourself to a massage after a night out.

Use a Daily Moisturizer & Cleanser with Hydrating Properties – Many people know to moisturize daily. Be sure to also opt for a gentle cleansing foam or oil for the face. Some micellar water cleansers are great too!  For extremely dry facial skin, try a cleansing balm. Many cleansing balms are rich in formula-based butters that quickly soften & hydrate.

Exfoliate – Your skin naturally sheds unneeded dead skin cells to make room for new cells. This happens every 30 days or so. Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells and it’s much needed! Be sure to exfoliate once a week with a gentle exfoliator to bring out the soft and supple skin that’s underneath.

Wash Your Face Twice Per Day or Less – On the days when you’re not working out or sweating heavily from power walks or hard labor, switch to just one facial wash in the morning and one at night before bed. Overwashing can lead to dryness. Plus, it also gets quite expensive if you’re using luxury skincare options 3-4 times daily. If you are washing your face 3-4 times a day and using your best products, plan on buying more products to alleviate unwanted dryness. It’s what you’ll have to do.  Maybe it’s not your products, maybe it’s your diet & daily habits. Just a thought.

Avoid Hot Water – When bathing it’s best to use warm water on the skin instead of hot water. It’s known, hot water can lead to excessively dry skin. The itchy kind to be specific.  No one wants that so a lukewarm or warm shower is best.

Check Your Medications: Some medications can dry out the skin in the most obvious ways. If your dry skin started the same time you started a particular medication, consult with your physician to see if there are other options for your health and medical needs.
