Nicole Roche of Faux Cute. An Exclusive Interview with DFN’s Senior Editor & Owner, Shannon Lazovski

DFN: Hi Nicole, thank you for speaking with me today. Tell us a bit about your business, Faux Cute.

Roche: I run a small earring business called Faux Cute. We specialize in lightweight, trendy, and affordable earrings for women. The goal is for women to feel beautiful and confident which has truly helped me build genuine connections with my customers.

DFN: When did designing earrings become your passion?

Roche: I’ve been passionate about earrings since grade school. When the quarantine of 2020 came about I was looking to do something to fill the extra time. A lightbulb went off & I decided I was going to make earrings! I went on a whim and purchased a Cricut Maker and had many sleepless nights trying to design and create.  It was so much harder than I thought, I dropped my first collection in April of 2020 and it sold out!

DFN: Is there a fashion icon or a brand that motivates you and influences your work?

Roche: Honestly, I’m not heavily influenced by any one fashion icon or brand. Faux Cute is really inspired by real life; my friends, family, everyday outfits. I believe fashion should be fun and expressive but also affordable. I try to design and create earrings that make women feel beautiful without overthinking it. I do love watching the trends on social media to see what is currently resonating with people.

DFN: What are your favorite materials to work with?

Roche: I originally started out with faux leather and cork! Those will forever be my babies as far as materials go!  I have now branched out into using acrylics & rhinestones which were such a fun addition to the Faux Cute collections.

DFN: Tell us about your latest collaboration with ReJoyceful Animal Rescue.

Roche: We recently did a give back collection to Rejoyceful Rescue.  It’s a very fun and bright summer collection. We are donating 15% of our sales from this collection to them due to the devastating flood the rescue endured.

DFN: How did this collaboration come about?

Roche: Rejoyceful really tugs at my heart strings after we just adopted our Havachon puppy Mickey from them in March. We did this just after our 18 year old dog Louie passed away and Mickey has really helped to heal our hearts. I feel like I owe Rejoyceful so much!  They are heroes to animals and do incredible work.

DFN:  How can our readers purchase this thoughtful “Give Back” collection and your other designs?

Roche: Anyone can go to www.fauxcute.com and purchase from The Rejoyceful Rescue Give Back Collection.

DFN: Do you have any future collaborations in the works? Can you give us a teaser?

Roche: In the near future, on August 16th, we will be doing an event with Blush & Beauty boutique in New Baltimore where we will be unveiling our brand new Faux Cute Charm Bar where women can come and customize a pair of charm hoop earrings.  At this event $1 from each pair of earrings sold will be donated to Rejoyceful Rescue as well.

DFN: Are there any special events or pop-ups coming in the future you would like to share?

Roche: We’d love to see you all at Blush & Beauty as mentioned above. Also, come see us at Frontier town in Romeo during Labor Day weekend! We are looking forward to this 3 day event and love seeing all your beautiful faces!
