Learn to Tie a Tie with These Easy Steps
Learning how to tie a tie can take some getting used to. If you didn’t learn on Sundays when you were a kid, don’t worry, there’s still time to learn and it’s quite easy too!
We’ve put together a list of easy-to-remember and easy-to-do steps to pulling off a half-Windsor knot. It’s one of the easiest knots to make and one of the most popular worn by tie wearers.
-
- Hang the tie around your neck with the wider side longer than the narrow side. Make sure it’s 9-12 inches longer to be precise.
- Cross the wider end over the narrow end.
- Next, wrap the wider end under the narrow end and pull it through the other side.
- From here, go slow and pull up the wider end towards the neck loop.
- Pull the tie through the neck loop and towards the opposite side where you had it before.
- Now, wrap the wide end of the tie over the front.
- Pull up the wide end through the neck loop up toward your face.
- Pull your tie through the loop and then downward.
- You’re almost done! Adjust your collar and flip it down. Adjust the tie toward the collar, and tighten and center the knot for tie perfection. (Hint: If your narrow end extends past the wide end, please redo!)
- Be sure your tie ends at your belt. It cannot be longer or shorter. If it does, celebrate and enjoy your fresh tie!
